When it's damp, i turn on the dehumidifier. Is it pointless to run if all the windows are open? I usually try to close the ones near the unit and leave 1 or 2 open further away from the unit.

Hi! This is a little tricky to answer because I'm not sure what humidity it is where you are living. Generally your dehumidifier won't be as efficient with windows open. Though having fresh air is always nice.
I'd say the best thing to do would be to get a humidity monitor and see if the humidity is over 50% on damp days with running the dehumidifier and having the windows open. If it is over 50%, then shut the windows the next time and see if it is below 50%. You want it under 50% because then mold won't grow in the air and it is healthier.
