Crane Humidifiers

Crane humidifiers are known for their fun, cute designs. They offer many ultrasonic humidifier models. Models including the adorable animal collections, sports models, nursery humidifier and cool mist humidifier. Read the Crane Adorable Humidifier Review Page.

Crane humidifiers started in 2005 with their “fun” into functional humidifier collection. They have licensed designs including Hello Kitty, Thomas the Tank and SpongeBob Squarepants. These are always a hit with kids. Okay, and some adults too!

Crane notes on their website, in 2007, the FDA issued a strong advisory against giving children under 2 cold medications because of the serious side effects. The FDA noted parents should try a safer method of relieving coughs and congestion by using either a humidifier, saline nose drops and/or suctioning bulbs to thin and clear mucus from a baby’s nose. Running the humidifier during naps and at bedtime should be helpful.

I have found during my research that optimal humidity levels in the home should be between 30-45%. Generally, it drops well below this during the winter because of the forced air heating in many homes. It is healthier to have the whole house at this level of humidity.

You can buy a humidistat to check the level of humidity in any room. Note: some high quality humidifiers have humidistats on the unit itself, and will shut off when the proper humidity is reached, for this feature check out Air O Swiss humidifiers on the tab to the left. These are helpful because you want to make sure not to over humidify your baby’s room either. If it’s over 50%, bacteria can grow and germs thrive more.

Care and cleaning of Crane humidifiers. With all cool mist humidifiers, it is important to clean them regularly. Always use fresh water to refill the unit, and empty it when you turn it off, to decrease bacteria build up from sitting water. Between 3-7 days, depending on use, swish vinegar around the tank to clean it. Then rinse it well.

Cool mist humidifiers will likely send out a white mineral dust if tap water is used. This is because there are minerals in the tap water that get released into the air. This white dust is irritating to the lungs and not good for babies. To prevent white dust, you can either fill the unit with distilled water or use a demineralization cartridge. Generally, one or the other will eliminate it. If you still find some, use both to eliminate it. These steps should ensure healthy air for your family.
