Can you use Essential Oils in a humidifier?

I have a few cool most humidifiers. One of them being the big Honeywell 9 gallon humidifier. I want to keep the tanks clean and I'm wondering if I could add any kind of essential oils to the water tanks to help in keeping it clean? Or if I added a teaspoon of baking soda? I'm a bit of a hippie so I try to steer clear of chicals as much as possible... Maybe a teaspoon of white vinegar?

Hi!
Yes, I'm a bit of a hippie too :) The essential oils would leave some residue so I'd recommend the vinegar. I use vinegar to clean my humidifiers and it works well. Since it can smell, you could also use a product that has silver to inhibit bacteria growth. Here's one I found: http://www.iallergy.com/product_info.php?products_id=1113

You can use it in any humidifier, not just their brand. Silver is a natural product to keep those humidifiers clean. Or just clean it once a week w vinegar, that works too.
