Baby congestion

I have a 6 week old baby with nasal congestion when he wakes up. I also live in a house that just developed small patches of mold near the windows. Will a humidifier or dehumidifier help with his congestion?

baby congestion help with humidifier or dehumidifier

Hi!
If you can see mold in your home, that is a huge problem. It must be cleaned right away with a vinegar or bleach solution and the leaking dealt with. Mold in a nursery can cause many lung problems. At this point neither a humidifier or dehumidifier will help, until you clean up the mold around the windows and stop the cause of the mold forming.

After that is clean, it depends on if the air is below 30% humidity or above 55%. A humidifier would help your baby is the humidity is low, under 30%. If you have high humidity, above 55%, then a dehumidifier will help. A humidistat will help you determine the amount of humidity, they can be ordered on Amazon.com.

Also, elevating the mattress (I put a small towel under my son's mattress, to raise it under his head) just slightly, so your baby's head is slightly higher, can help as well.
