Attic Dehumidifiers

Looking for the best attic dehumidifiers? Read our expert review on the must have options for keeping your attic dry and your home healthy.

Attics are where so many of us store the things we treasure enough to save for our children and grandchildren. They are an important part of many houses, and everyone loves to explore the them. What everyone does not love, however, is mold, mildew, and dank, smelly spaces.

Excess humidity can build up in an attic and create health risks and property damage. Without a good attic dehumidifier, Grandma’s wedding dress might not survive long enough to be passed down to another generation.

Attics are often not temperature controlled, so they create the need for a more specialized dehumidifier with the ability to operate in low temperatures as well as high ones. Generally, for an attic you need a dehumidifier capable of working at temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. There are several good options in low-temperature dehumidifiers, however price and coverage can vary widely.

At the lower end of the price range for low-temperature dehumidifiers is the Winix 70 Pint Dehumidifier. This model has an internal pump, a washable air filter, auto restart, and operates at temperatures as low as 36 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is suitable for spaces up to 1,400 square feet, and is capable of removing 70 pints of water from the air every 24 hours. It costs about $350. Winix also manufactures a 50-pint version with the same specifications except for coverage and capacity. The Winix 50 Pint Dehumidifier covers up to 1,000 square feet, and removes 50 pints of water from the air every 24 hours. This model sells for about $280.

If your attic is not very big but it gets quite cold, you may need an Ebac CD30 or CD30E Dehumidifier or a similar model. These versatile low temperature attic dehumidifiers have an operating temperature range of 33 degrees Fahrenheit to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, can remove 2.13 gallons of water from the air every 24 hours, and draw 5 amps of energy. These units are suited for spaces up to 400 square feet in area, and cost about $770 each.

If you have a larger attic that gets very cold but also very hot, the Ebac CD60 might be a dehumidifier to consider. It covers up to 1,500 square feet, has a temperature range of 33 degrees Fahrenheit to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, can remove up to 7 gallons of water from the air in 24 hours, and draws 7 amps. The Ebac CD60 costs about $1,500.
